Bounties are exploration-based hunt-and-kill quests, while Nephalem Rifts are fast-paced dungeon races with tons of powerful monsters.Ī new difficulty system has been introduced with Reaper of Souls. Adventure Mode features two types of gameplay, Bounties and Nephalem Rifts. Transmogrification allows players to reskin their gear to look like another item that they have once held.Īdventure Mode is a new form of gameplay in Reaper of Souls. Enchanting allows players to reroll a single stat on a piece of equipment, allowing for a certain amount of control over the stats of an item. The Mystic can perform two functions: Enchanting and Transmogrification. The Mystic is the latest addition to the crafting followers that Nephalem have access to. Legendary items have also been significantly altered, and now have more interesting, unique features. Instead of receiving a high number of completely randomized items, players will receive less items that have a higher chance of being meaningful upgrades. The Crusader can wield the unique Flail weapon, and uses Wrath as a resource, which is built and consumed by the Crusader's abilities.Īlongside the removal of the Auction House, Reaper of Souls features Loot 2.0, which significantly changes the way that loot is dropped. Joining the ranks of Sanctuary's heroes is the Crusader, a heavily armored melee class that specializes in healing and tanking. Unknown to the player, destroying the Black Soulstone causes the trapped souls inside to be released setting free Diablo and his brother once more in the world of Sanctuary. When confronting Malthael, he destroys and consumes the Black Soulstone becoming the Prime Evil once more for the player to defeat. After vanquishing legions of demons, the player must venture into the spectural world of Pandemonium to face the Angel of Death himself, Malthael. The players battle through the city to stop Malthael and his band of demons, and eventually confront the witch Adria from the preivous Diablo games. Malthael has stolen the Black Soulstone and taken it to Westmarch trying to use its dark power to help eradicate all humans from Sanctuary. Malthael, the once Archangel of Wisdom, returns as the Angel of Death.

The Story of Reaper of Souls follows up after the defeat of Diablo. In an update just prior to the release of Reaper of Souls, Paragon 2.0 and Loot 2.0, as well as two new gameplay modes: Bounties and Nephalem Rifts.
